If the algorithm looks for first-person pronouns to signify "experience," the prompt just includes "Write this from the perspective of a veteran software engineer." If it looks for "authoritative" outbound links, the script pulls the top three citations from Wikipedia automatically.
I’ve looked at some of these programmatic SEO sites lately, and they are actually quite impressive in a dystopian kind of way. They use schema markup better than most human devs. They have perfect Core Web Vitals. They include "FAQ" sections that target long-tail keywords with surgical precision. On paper, they are the "perfect" webpage.
But when you actually read them? It’s a whole lot of words that say absolutely nothing. It’s a hollowed-out version of information. It’s "content" in the same way that sawdust is "fiber."
Parasite SEO: The New Frontier
One of the wildest things I’ve been tracking lately is what people are calling "Parasite SEO." This is where content mills don't even bother trying to rank their own domains. Instead, they buy sponsored slots on high-authority sites like Forbes, Outlook India, or MSN.

I mean, it's brilliant. And it’s completely breaking the way we discover information. You think you’re getting a recommendation from a trusted publication, but you’re actually just reading a GPT-4 output that was bought and paid for by an affiliate marketer. It’s an insanely effective way to bypass the algorithm because the algorithm is essentially being held hostage by the domain name.
The Latent Space of Garbage
There’s a technical side to this that I think we, as tech people, don't talk about enough. When we train models on AI-generated content, the "latent space"—the mathematical representation of how the AI understands the world—starts to shrink.
We’re seeing this in real-time on the web. As content mills flood the internet with "average" content, the search results become a sea of mediocrity. Everything sounds the same. Everything has the same three-paragraph structure with a "Conclusion" at the end.
Honestly, I’m not sure Google knows how to fix this without fundamentally changing how search works. If they prioritize "human-like" writing, we just get better at mimicking it. If they prioritize "authority," the big brands just sell their souls to the highest bidder.

The tech industry loves to talk about "democratizing creativity," but what we’ve actually done is commoditized it to the point of worthlessness. When the cost of production goes to zero, the value of the output eventually follows.
